The Founders Club at St. James

Designer: Architect - P. B. Dye

The Founders Club (formerly The Gauntlet Club) is an award-winning 18-hole championship course that was designed by P. B. Dye to enhance the natural beauty of the coastal Carolina landscape. Experienced players will appreciate its challenging layout, which features the highest slope rating of any course on the East Coast. The Founders Club also offers a newly renovated clubhouse and a state-of-the-art swimming and tennis complex.

St. James Plantation Director of Golf Rob Brothers grew up in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, where his parents introduced him to golf at age five. He spent his youth as a self-described "shop rat" at Northgreen Country Club before going off to college at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. After obtaining his undergraduate and graduate degrees at UNC, Rob set a goal of becoming a head golf professional in five years. He started as an assistant pro at Hilton Head's Wexford Golf Club in December 1993 and came to St. James in November 1996 as the first assistant pro at the Gauntlet, now the Founders Club. Rob was promoted head professional at the club in December 1997, a full year ahead of his goal. In October 2001, he was named Director of Golf for all of the golf clubs at St. James.
